Always responsive to the demands of an ever changing industry, Karl Kling’s small office in the southern german town evolved over subsequent years into an international consultancy centre providing and distributing engineering services throughout the world.

From its head office in Germany, Kling Consult has been servicing international construction projects for decades, while concentrating its international efforts primarily in the Middle East and North Africa.

In 2004, Kling Consult took its first steps in the United Arab Emirates and built up its successful office in Dubai to undertake services and activities for a fast growing and exciting market.

Kling Consult with its 250 strong staff in Germany and his team in Dubai has become one of the most respectable design and engineering companies in Western Europe and the Middle East.

"…It will often prove that drawing a blind over a window,or actuating some other equally simple control, is all that is required. In the right circumstances, a truly sophisticated approach to the man/environment system may involve no complex mechanisms at all.

Sophistication is not necessarily the product of highly developed machinery, nor intensive capital investment. It is more a way of using available equipment and resources with cunning and intelligence." Reyner Banham, “ The Architecture of the Well Tempered Environment”, 1969/84

About VVKH

In June 2005 our practice changed name from “Verheijen Verkoren Knappers de Haan” to “Verheijen van Rijswijk Knappers de Haan” architecten (VVKH architecten). We continue to provide comprehensive architectural, engineering and financial analysis expertise.

Fons Verheijen, Gerrit-Jan van Rijswijk, Ronald Knappers and Joost de Haan are responsible for each design that we produce.

Mels Verkoren is responsible for engineering, planning and finance. This means that he will manage the transition from design to construction. When brought together, the two VVKH peer disciplines stimulate and activate one another. It is our joint aim to produce an excellent final product.

How we work

Our practice is committed to excellence in design, but only on the basis of agreements made with the client and within the agreed budget and timetable. Therefore construction management and budgetary control are considered equally important as architecture. Mels Verkoren, supported by general office manager Albert Kingma and specifier/calculator Egbert Dijkstra, is the responsible manager for these services.

Architecture will only be achieved as a result of a construction process that is well managed and structured. A professional approach towards budget control and planning is of paramount importance to ensure that the working out of the technical aspects of a design as well as the operational management will run smoothly. Design drawings, specifications and estimates need to be correct, should be in tune with each other and must be completed on time. It goes without saying that we at VVKH think the supervision of this process is a vital aspect of our work. VVKH has it own specifications and calculation department.

The construction manager’s objective is to ensure that the required design quality is achieved within the budget and on time, through professional supervision, supported by the supervisors on the site, and of course in consultation with the client. Mels Verkoren, Albert Kingma, Egbert Dijkstra and Fred Berg will act as sparring-partners for the designing architects during the design phase. They will carry out interim assessments of the financial and technical feasibility of the plans. And they will also check the plans for compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
